CORPORATE POLICY

Stonitsch Construction, Inc. recognizes that it is of utmost importance to maintain a safe and healthful work environment to prevent the occurrence of incidents or accidents that lead to occupational injuries or illnesses and damage to equipment and property.  It is our policy to strive for the safest possible performance.  We are committed to preventing loss and safety  will never be compromised.  Safety is considered fundamental to our operations.  A good safety record serves to promote business and reflects quality of supervision.

We are vitally interested in the safety of our employees, subcontractors / supplier employees, and the public on or near our job sites or base operations.  Individual attitudes and practices are the key to the success of our efforts.  Every attempt is made to provide training and equipment and to create conditions that will make for a safer workplace.  If an employee willfully disregards known safe practices, he or she will be subject to disciplinary action.  Therefore, the continued cooperation of all employees is required to support and sustain our safety program.

Our safety policy also mandates all subcontractors comply with the project safety program, OSHA, local, state, and federal standards.  Subcontractors, suppliers, and job site vendors are expected to abide by the provisions of this policy.  Our Safety Officer, Project Mangers, and Project Superintendents monitor safety policy compliance at every project site.  In addition, the trade contractors are required to hold a weekly safety meeting.  Employee attendance is mandatory and a list of attendees is presented each week to the project superintendent by the active trade contractors.

Our current safety manual covers safety issue topics for a job site.  Major safety topics are:

  • Company Safety Program

  • Company Safety Rules and Policies

  • Accident Reporting

  • Special Emphasis Safety Procedures

  • Safety Training

  • Safety Inspections

Since each construction project is unique, often the company procedures may need to be refined or expanded to meet the specific site safety and loss control needs of a particular project.  Each site superintendent may refine or expand these procedures as needed with corporate approval.  However, in all cases, we will meet or exceed all minimum federal, state, and local construction safety requirements.

AWARDS

We take great pride in the acknowledgment by others of our commitment to safety. During the last six years, we have received five awards from the Three Rivers Safety Council for work performed at Three Rivers Manufacturer’s Association Member plants, including two awards in 2001 for achieving a 0% OSHA incidence rate. The award is for exemplary safety achievement and performance at these plants.  The primary criterion for award selection was our extremely low OSHA incidence rate. This association takes safety very seriously, and we are very pleased to have received these awards.

EMR

A reflection of our commitment to safety is shown in our low experience modification rate (EMR).  An EMR of 1.75 means a company is paying 75% higher workers’ compensation rates than the average business in the construction industry. The EMR at Stonitsch Construction, Inc. is currently at 0.77.
